EVENT: BLANKET FIC

[ It may have been only a few days, but did that heatwave feel like it lasted forever to anyone else? No? Either way, it's gone now. Bringing with it a blessed coolness. Actually wait, it's cold-- too cold! Worse yet, not even going into the train seems to really help. Fortunately, someone seems to have been kind enough to leave some nice, fuzzy blankets lying around. Too bad it doesn't seem to help much unless you share them with someone...

Either way, you're in luck because you've got some new teammates on the train! The notification appears cheerfully on everyone's Chains:

[ It seems to be mostly, curious-fascinated dragon smells interesting delicious things and really, really, really, really wants to get all up in its business ]

[Gonna pick her up and away from the oven.]

Lots of appliances in here that can turn or cut if you're not careful.

[ She's large enough that picking her up is generally Awkward, and that's even before she yips and flaps her big ol' wings in surprise, probably smacking him a bit in the process ]

[ Twists and leaps out of his arms! ]

[He can deal with the awkward big shape. Wings are definitely more of a pain, stumbling back a few steps before letting go.]

Better rude then encouraging putting your head in ovens. That cooks food.

[ Shakes herself off with a disgruntled huff, giving her wings a little flap. Flicks her tail. ]

Ruuuude.

[ Let a girl sniff around, damnit ]

[ But! Fine! Turns tail and snoofs her way back out into the lounge, lead the way, human. ]

Yep. [He knows he's rude, okay okay.]

[Sighs, but will lead the way to the library again.]

[ They'll get there eventually. Eventually. ]

[ Now excuse her while she sniffs in here from top to bottom, too. ]

[He will be less mother hen while she does that. Keeping an eye so she doesn't, like, topple a bookcase on herself, but he's going to be scanning the shelves for an assortment of books himself.]

[ She's at least got the sense to only put her paws up on the bookcases propped up against walls. And as much as she wants to climb, she resists the urge. For now. ]

[ Gently paws out the most colourful books she can find, she's Helping. ]

So, I'm going to list genres. Are you familiar with genres as a concept?

[ Twists her neck until she's looking at him upside down, her tail giving a gentle wag at the tip. ]

[ Finally drops back onto all four paws, allowing herself a li'l stretch and a rustle of wings. ]

[ And ... nods at all of them. All the genres! ]

[Considering a few moments.]

We'll do mystery. A little more grounded when it comes to vocabulary. [Instead of made up words in some of those.] How's that sound?

[ Nod, nod! Chirrups her approval. ]

[ Trots off towards the reading area, nudging out one chair for him while she just, straight up climbs onto the table to loaf there. ]

[Time to select some mysteries.]

[We'll do Agatha Christie to not be totally obvious.]

[And then he'll come sit down at the seat and he'll begin reading to her. Making sure to not rush, and adding some entertainment value by doing voices for the characters.]

[ FUN EXCITING MYSTERY ]

[ She listens avidly — and reactively, making faces and little vocalisations as the stories progress. Her ears twitch and perk, her tail wiggles and wags and even lashes sometimes. And all the while, she watches him closely, seeing how he forms the words. ]

[Drama! Murder! Thrills!]

[And serious voices and very funny voices because that's what you gotta do with archetypes sometimes.]

[And according to an audio book, Murder on the Orient Express can be read aloud in under three hours, so we'll say that.]

[Closing the book and putting it down.] That help?

[ she sure sounds more confident, the words coming much more easily. ]

You're definitely sounding better. One more, but then we should see about explaining all this, okay? [Gesturing to the train as a whole, looking at the books and picking up Death on the Nile.]

Fine, fine, fine. [ She's not in any hurry, tbh. ]

[ Rolls onto her back, wings flopping out all over the table, with her paws curled up by her chest and her head tilted so she can keep watching him. ]

[She might not be, but Dusk would prefer his teammates are informed before shit can go down.]

[Moves the books a little more out of the way her sprawling out and will begin reading. Complete with voices and all that.]
