The Third Trial

Who: Heroes
When: Day 8, morning
Where: Outer Space

[ A familiar silence takes hold of the jungle, and just as before the unsettling stillness erupts into a heavy gale, shaking the Aurora. Also familiar to most is the call, echoing in your mind:

Come hither, Heroes. Prove thy worth.

This time, instead of either the house or the tent, there’s a glittering void, points of light twinkling in the air. As you step into the space it expands, seeming to consume you, the Aurora, and all that exists in general. There’s a feeling of vertigo as this happens, frozen lights swirling all about you, an obnoxious giggling echoing from -- in front? -- behind? -- everywhere?

“Welcome, welcome, welcome!” rings a lilting, sing-song voice, mischievous and just a slight bit unsettling in cadence. “Darkness comes in many forms, so let’s see how good you are at sniffing it out~!”

The lights seem to dim, or maybe it’s just your vision --

“Oh, and remember, remember, remember! Everything that happens…

...happens because of you.

-- and then it’s over, your vision returns, and you find yourself in the gilded foyer of what seems to be a manor. ]

[ closes his eyes, ruminating, ]

Somehow it seems that the the Rulers of this fictional little Kingdom receive their "divine mandates" from festivals...... it sounds a little silly, doesn't it?

Though it also appears the power of the Ruling Class is founded on witch hunts and stomping down on anything magical, as well as their connection to the Church. A dark history if you ask me.

Certainly. That is troubling. But I wonder... How do you suppose it relates?

[whoa just zeroing on "festivals"]

Pardon me, but did you say kingdoms receive divine mandates from festivals?

[AND THAT MAGIC SHIT. IT CANNOT BE.]

[ he's never even spoken to her before so he kind of. startles just a little bit when she suddenly addresses him while he's in the middle of another conversation. ]

Ah...? Yes... It was something to that effect.

[She takes a moment, her brow furrowing. She could not mistake the rest of it.]

I see. Thank you. My apologies for interrupting you.

[She bows, actually, to that effect. She knows that was rude, but she needed to know.]

I am not certain of anything, but that aside, that was very rude of me.

Ahaha... Well you're the first person here to ever apologize to me for being rude!

You may have surprised me, but I don't really mind that much. I'm more curious than anything. Why are you so interested in these festivals?
voreaciously: (47)

this got lost in my inbox sorry

It is a curiosity, is it not? It is a matter of interest to me. I wonder if there is anything from that experience that may shed some light on our situation.
