The Ninth Trial

Where: The Hermit's Tent, and all around

[This morning as the sun begins to pour through the train's windows, there's the tremor that signals a Trial.]

Come hither, Heroes. Prove thy worth. Or something like that!

[It's the same older man's voice from the sixth trial, and outside is the same fortune teller's stall. Today the front flap is lifted to show a normal interior -- there's a wooden table, carved with geometric patterns and painted in bright colours, lit by teal-coloured carved candles.

At the table sits a man of indeterminate age, somewhere between 30 and 60. He's wearing what appear to be monk's robes, teal with patterned trimming. In front of him is a crystal ball and a stack of bingo cards, along with a stand-up sign bearing the rules of this Trial.

Across the top in large font, it says:

Icebreaker Bingo

Good luck and have fun!]

[ He's taking off with those words, focusing not on Jusis' progress but on getting there as fast as possible. His legs are long and he is very determined. ]

[He'll lose this race too though not as badly as he loses to Rufus.]

[ He turns to grin at Jusis after he wins. ]

Nice race! You really kept me on my toes.

[He won't be a sore loser by saying Crow got lucky or anything.]

You're still ridiculously athletic I see.

Of course, I wanna keep myself in shape!

[ Even if he doesn't remember how he got into shape in the first place. ]

Not a bad plan I suppose.

I thought so too. You wanna pick a square?

I have no particular preference. It's not as if you can answer much.

[ That's legit. ]

Well, you're just a ray of sunshine aren't you? Most of these don't really require a fully functioning memory. Let's go for singing or playing a song.

If you wanted a sunny disposition you clearly don't remember me enough.

But very well. I'm confident enough in my singing.

"Wanting" and "expecting" are two very different things, Jusis. And I don't expect it.

[ He grins. ]

But I'm ready for your performance.

[saddleclub]

Well, at least your wits are still intact. Go bother my brother if you want someone charming.

[But he'll clear his throat, think for a moment, then just start singing the song he dueted with Machias.]

[ He's got a retort to that, but he saves it and listens to Jusis sing instead. He doesn't remember anything about the festival or the concert yet, but he can tell that Jusis has a comfortable familiarity with the song. The notes are crisp and clear, and he closes his eyes to appreciate the music until Jusis is finished. ]

[He ends, slightly self conscious but he is confident enough in his ability to sing, especially something he's practiced as much as that.]

Well. I await your performance.

[ There's some applause over here. ]

You did pretty good there!

[ He's not putting it off, he just wanted to say that first. ]

Naturally. If I say I'm good at something than I am.

[But he seems a little pleased with the praise. It's subtle but despite his arrogant bored tone he's smiling a tiny amount.]

Heh. I like that kind of confidence! Anyway, that makes it my turn.

[ He puts his hand to his chest and starts singing something that may or may not be this. Either way, he's not the least bit self-conscious as he's doing that-- though Jusis probably isn't surprised by that. ]
