The Eighth Trial

Who: Heroes
When: Day 17, morning
Where: the party zone The Fairy Circle

Come hither, Heroes. Prove thy worth.

Just like always, the train shudders in response to some foreign power. You’ve been here before, haven’t you? You know what will happen when you venture out of the train and into the dark forest beyond in search of some old house, or a tower, or whatever fresh nonsense awaits you.

But there’s no inexplicable new castle or what-have-you. Instead the air outside the train is filled with glittering bubbles floating lazily above what appears to be a collection of large white mushrooms grown in a circle.

Obviously there is no door, and touching any of the bubbles will simply cause them to burst. Should you step into the circle, however….

Foolish heroes, destined to be swallowed by the encroaching malice… can your hearts truly withstand the nightmare that is reality?

Darkness overtakes you.

When you wake up the first thing you may notice is this game has a soundtrack. The music appears to have no discernible source and fills the entire room. ... and what a room it is.

It appears you’ve been transported to some kind of… children’s… birthday party?

At the far end of the room is a large table with a sign above it reading HAPPY BIRTHDAY. It’s a pretty impressive set up with a variety of goodies including noise makers, party hats, disposable plates and cups, and enough sugar to fuel a whole room full of grade schoolers

The biggest and arguably most important party refreshment sits right in the middle of the table, however; a giant bowl of fruit punch. Don’t worry children it’s non-alcoholic. It's also not suspicious at all.

For now, don't worry! Mingle! Eat food! Don't think about all the bad things going on right now!! And don't forget to read the rules near the punch bowl.

I did. I do not. No. However, I have not satisfied my curiosity so if you have a list of things you require, I can retrieve them for you.

Okay, like, disclaimer that I don't want to encourage taking specimens too much, but otherwise basically any animal out there that you kill in defense or for meat, I will totally take a skeleton and/or a body. I really want to learn about the things that have extra eyes.

[jesus you're so responsible]

Very well, on all counts.

[so that is another three for her.]

Are you going to have room for all of these? Are there animals you dislike? What is your family name?

[because she realises she doesn't know, it wasn't something given]

I might need to buy some real storage soon, I don't know how my teammates will feel if I store skeletons in our living room. I don't dislike any animals, but off the top of my head... I don't like kraken that much? Something about how they move just wigs me out.

My last name is Aberdeen, but please don't call me Miss Aberdeen.

[but but but BUT]

...Very well, as you like, Miss Eliza. Please proceed with your question.

Should I be calling you "miss" instead of just 80H?

[personal profile] voreaciously 2019-03-25 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
...It does not matter to me, truly. Please call me what you will.

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-03-25 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. I'm not in the habit of using "miss" anyways.

What is something interesting you have discovered about another world since arriving here?

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-03-25 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Naeva's world doesn't have small dragons!

[personal profile] voreaciously 2019-03-25 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, just the big ones then?

[a beat]

That is two questions you may ask me.

[but she's just gonna assume they have dragons like

who's heard of a world with no dragons]

[worlds with no dragons make eliza sad]

She said their smallest was 5 meters.

Umm, you do magic with a water focus, right? Is that a deliberate specialization?

[personal profile] voreaciously 2019-03-25 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[nts: ask about scale]

I do. And it is deliberate inasmuch as I was born into it and have no choice.

How small do dragons get in your world?

My smallest familiar, Lori, is small enough that I keep her bones in a tupperware in my purse. The smallest known species could curl up in a teacup.
