The Eighth Trial

Who: Heroes
When: Day 17, morning
Where: the party zone The Fairy Circle

Come hither, Heroes. Prove thy worth.

Just like always, the train shudders in response to some foreign power. You’ve been here before, haven’t you? You know what will happen when you venture out of the train and into the dark forest beyond in search of some old house, or a tower, or whatever fresh nonsense awaits you.

But there’s no inexplicable new castle or what-have-you. Instead the air outside the train is filled with glittering bubbles floating lazily above what appears to be a collection of large white mushrooms grown in a circle.

Obviously there is no door, and touching any of the bubbles will simply cause them to burst. Should you step into the circle, however….

Foolish heroes, destined to be swallowed by the encroaching malice… can your hearts truly withstand the nightmare that is reality?

Darkness overtakes you.

When you wake up the first thing you may notice is this game has a soundtrack. The music appears to have no discernible source and fills the entire room. ... and what a room it is.

It appears you’ve been transported to some kind of… children’s… birthday party?

At the far end of the room is a large table with a sign above it reading HAPPY BIRTHDAY. It’s a pretty impressive set up with a variety of goodies including noise makers, party hats, disposable plates and cups, and enough sugar to fuel a whole room full of grade schoolers

The biggest and arguably most important party refreshment sits right in the middle of the table, however; a giant bowl of fruit punch. Don’t worry children it’s non-alcoholic. It's also not suspicious at all.

For now, don't worry! Mingle! Eat food! Don't think about all the bad things going on right now!! And don't forget to read the rules near the punch bowl.

[ she wants to go home, ]

Well, I suppose - have you settled in well?
desirestruth: (Ran away on it's own)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-03-23 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well enough. It's only been five days...

[a very. eventful five days.]

Are you well, yourself?

[ opens her mouth

closes her mouth

opens her mouth again ]

Not particularly.
desirestruth: (And fell into Hell)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-03-24 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
I--am sorry to hear that. Do...you wish to speak of it?
unaffective: (Untitled-14f)

[personal profile] unaffective 2019-03-24 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Respectfully, I would much prefer that we refrain, though I regardless remain aware that speaking of these matters would be more prudent by far...
desirestruth: (I won't admit the game is over)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-03-24 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
...Well, even if it is more prudent, there's no need to do so here, Miss Elaine.

[She considers this for a moment.]

So, it is your question.

"Elaine" is fine... Ah, I suppose there was -

Would you happen to know if there is anyone in this place of some relation to you, via their world of origin or otherwise?
desirestruth: (I turned my back)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-03-24 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
[WELL SHE JUST. WENT BRIGHT RED.]

Ah, that is...on Licorice, there's a man by the name of Lucien. He...I would like to think we were close.

[Close enough she brought him back to senna's dorm last night, anyway.]

Oh my. Are you quite alright?
desirestruth: (And fell into Hell)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-03-24 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
...That is two questions. I am fine...but I am a little embarrassed.

[personal profile] unaffective 2019-03-24 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I'm - my apologies, it wasn't intended as a question - nor was the former intended to cause you any distress. As such appears to be the case for a few others in this place, I was simply wondering...
desirestruth: (Ran away on it's own)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-03-24 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
You couldn't have known.

[Rubbing at her face a little.] And it is...inappropriate of me to behave in such a manner, anyway.

There's little shame in it, if this is a man for whom you've felt strongly.
desirestruth: (Even when it comes to love)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-03-25 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
...He doesn't remember.

[She doesn't know how else to explain, or how much to say, about how complicated she's made what she's feeling.]
unaffective: (33)

[personal profile] unaffective 2019-03-30 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
... I see. My apologies.

[ it's a great deal more rueful than any other apology she's given, in her expression and her tone - more than she's comfortable expressing, it's an upset she understands very well. ]
desirestruth: (Mother--Mother)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-03-30 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
It cannot be helped.

[She notices it, though. She couldn't not. And she sighs, gently.]

You too?
unaffective: (174)

[personal profile] unaffective 2019-03-30 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's rather... more complex than that, I suppose.
desirestruth: (Of all the mythical stories)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-03-30 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
There's no need to tell me anything you do not wish to.

I'm not quite certain what there is to be said, regardless.
