The Seventh Trial

Who: heroes (?)
When: Day 16, early morning
Where: the party zone

[Late in the night, the train jostles again. It feels like a Trial, but this time there's a strange, oppressive feeling in the air, and the call forth has changed. And yet it's a voice that's been heard before -- the resonant young man's voice that accompanied a military tent surrounded in white feathers.

What is a hero?

That tent is here now, imposing with its black flag and spatters of mud and blood, but the edges are tattered and the feathers strewn about are beginning to turn black. From them rises a smoke with a dark glow, sending a chill through anyone it touches.

As you enter the voice is raised again. Though still strong, it's no longer clear -- it sounds hoarse and a little distorted.]

What is your worth? What do you stand for? What... is the right thing to do?

What is Justice?

Yeah? Then tell me what it was about, because right the round before that everyone agreed to protect you. But suddenly there's an imaginary kingdom and things change. Sounds reasonable.

[chokes down what he was going to say. going on a tirade about how he doesn't deserve kindness or loyalty is only going to make Finn double down harder, probably.]

[ Yeah that's a good call. He's quiet for a bit at least, just looking at Randy — and he hasn't even used the healing pod yet but his wounds are starting to heal on their own regardless, noticeably faster than a normal person's would ]

I know it's what you wanted. But there was no need to, and I don't like it.

You know what I want to do right now? I want to go to your boyfriend and snap his neck like a twig, just like that. Or maybe just rip his face off — I could do that. I could do both of those like it's nothing.

And I don't like thinking that either.

... Well, it's not like I don't understand how he'd inspire those feelings, though. But I also get why it's not great.

Let's-- get you healed, okay? We can talk more once you're in one piece.

Keep him away from the carriage.

[bites his lip but nods]

[ there is another pause, and then he holds his hand to him ]

Help me up, I can't walk properly with my knee like this.

It's not — forever. Until I know I'm not going to kill him.

[taking his hand and pulling him up, trying to stoop enough he can sling that arm over his shoulder and support Finn.]

... Okay. You're being pretty reasonable, you know, given what a dick he was to you?

[ thanks buddy you're a bro even if he's still a little mad at you ]

Someone has to be. But I'm not forgiving him.

That's fair. He did stab you and all.

[TO THE MEDICAL CAR!]

[ he's not doing it, but, like, he's still entertaining the thought ]

[nudges a pod with a foot.]

I think it's just, you climb in and take a nap. Then you're all better when you get up. I'll cover you, by the way.

[ so, he's gonna sort of move toward the pod - though like, he still can't walk on his own so Randy is going to have to help with that ]

[--huffs a laugh]

[opening up one of the pods]

I dunno. I'm halfway convinced I'm in organized crime or something like that. But we can chat about that one after.

[ not convinced, sorry, but settling himself on the pod once Randy has taken care of that ]

[can't help a soft, bitter sort of smile, but drops it for now.]

No problem. I'll stick around until you wake up.

[ TIME TO HEAL!!! And it's actually not going to take him terribly long to fully heal his injuries, since he's got his own healing factor as well, so Randy won't have to wait there forever.

Once he's done, the pod opens and he's going to wake up and just step out of it ]

—Wow. That's convenient.

[Randy's standing from where he basically was camping on the floor.]

My back and knee don't hurt anymore.

[ but he's still maximum pissed ]

Yeah, I did mean physically.

[ He's going to stay silent for a moment. staring at him, before eventually— ]
