The Fourth Trial
Who: Heroes
When: Day 9, Midday
Where: The Dragon's Tower
Come hither, Heroes. Prove thy worth.
The earth rumbles beneath your feet with a mighty roar. This time a crumbling stone tower looms above you, unscalable and unbreachable. At the top of the tower is a single window with a single light, beckoning. The only entrance at the base is an arched wooden door which creaks in protest when you open it.
Upon entering the tower you will find yourself in a large room with high walls constructed of dark, uneven brick stone. The ceiling is so high that you cannot see anything but darkness as torches lining the walls serve as the only source of light. The room itself is achingly cold. It’s reminiscent of a dungeon… or a treasure room.
But the only treasure to be found lies in the middle of the room; a small pile of seven bracelets, each one inlaid with a beautiful jewel corresponding to each team’s color. It may be fairly obvious, but just in case anyone is slow on the uptake:
“What is it that you treasure in this world? What are you willing to give up? Until you can decide that much, you will not be allowed to leave this room. It matters not to me if you rot in here.
However, I will tell you this much; should you decide who among you is most precious, only they may bear the weight of your altruism.”

[ she doesn't know or care about ANYONE. but you know who would?
some guy who's not here I guess. ]
My apologies.

also you like care about like maribel and arjuna and some douche whose name she's not gonna mention even in this text but whatever]
...It is fine. You have shared a good deal. Thank you.
[This doesn't seem real she wants to tell herself it isn't. In fact, in a way, that wouldn't be far from the truth, it isn't happening to or for her, it would be easy to deny.
But she feels the lack of kudzu in this body. It isn't here, it isn't here, it isn't here. Either this is a long con and Elaine is telling the truth as she knows and is led to believe, or this is simply that. The truth.]

[ god. this sucks. ]
... At any rate, you do seem troubled. Apologies are in order to that end, and for my previous behavior, additionally - though I am hardly absolved through saying so, I will regardless confess that my mood has been somewhat poor. Thus, to that end, I suppose -
... Is there anything else that you might find yourself in need of?

Okay, who the fuck are you and what have you done with Elaine. Like she takes a moment or two to stare and process this information as well as run it against what she knows and suffers an error for it.]
...You do not need to apologise. [it is baffling, honestly.] It is...[ strange, because she expected so much worse from her, and Amane was prepared to throw far worse in her face for it if it happened, but now she does not have the heart to.
And it is odd. That this is how this situation is progressing.]...understandable that you would be upset. My condolences.
[She does not know whether to re-evaluate her feelings and by how much, but she does, in part, understand her grief.]

[ IT'S WHAT ONIICHAN WOULD WANT HER TO DO!!!
There's more she could say, honestly. The stress of being in this body is different enough to be a relief, in as much as it comes with its own problems - she's hard pressed to find it worthwhile, still, but as she sorts through these sensations and hungers and shoulders them, delicately, with the decision that she just "has to," as she always does - she does understand the choice. It isn't one she would've made, but from where she stands today, right now, she can understand it.
But she won't say it. That's a little much. As for her situation, though, the elephant in the room they're both alluding to - ]
... If I might ask, however - does he seem to remember very much?

[ mnn ]
To observe him from afar has been made somewhat more difficult with this body... But if there is nothing that he remembers, it is perhaps best that he be permitted to do so on his own.

... No, if I am to be frank, I'm not certain what should be said to him. Independent of any amnesia, however, he's doubtless already discovered us.

It has, obviously, since been resolved and his levels have been stable that I have seen, but upon arrival, he was already fading, nearly depleted of mana, and instead of immediately resolving the situation with due haste and efficiency, played the imbecile about the matter until I was no longer having it.
no subject
... Well - thank you.
