The Fourth Trial

Who: Heroes
When: Day 9, Midday
Where: The Dragon's Tower

Come hither, Heroes. Prove thy worth.

The earth rumbles beneath your feet with a mighty roar. This time a crumbling stone tower looms above you, unscalable and unbreachable. At the top of the tower is a single window with a single light, beckoning. The only entrance at the base is an arched wooden door which creaks in protest when you open it.

Upon entering the tower you will find yourself in a large room with high walls constructed of dark, uneven brick stone. The ceiling is so high that you cannot see anything but darkness as torches lining the walls serve as the only source of light. The room itself is achingly cold. It’s reminiscent of a dungeon… or a treasure room.

But the only treasure to be found lies in the middle of the room; a small pile of seven bracelets, each one inlaid with a beautiful jewel corresponding to each team’s color. It may be fairly obvious, but just in case anyone is slow on the uptake:

“What is it that you treasure in this world? What are you willing to give up? Until you can decide that much, you will not be allowed to leave this room. It matters not to me if you rot in here.

However, I will tell you this much; should you decide who among you is most precious, only they may bear the weight of your altruism.”

Fuck.

[Okay, don't panic. Don't make a big deal out of this. Even asking for help was dangerous, don't need to bring anything down on you besides that.]

I need - should I try the other guy? ...It happens to us, sometimes, the elbow was already rotted- ...

[Oh fuck, she needs motor control in that hand for her job. Oh god. Okay. Don't think about that. One problem at a time.]

[Uh.

Don't freak out Jusis you've dealt with weird shit. Taking a deep breath and holding up what looks like a fancy pocket watch or steam punch cell phone? hard to say when it's closed.]

Allow me to attempt it. If I cannot mend it Timur may be able to.

[what the heck is that, some kind of badge of office in there?]

Can you get it so I can move the fingers?

[somewhat afraid that the first attempt will be hard to undo if it's partial.]

The nerves are long gone, sensation doesn't matter.

If it is merely knitting flesh, probably. My arts are intended for use in combat, healing wounds and rent flesh is common. I have simply never been called upon to reattach anything.

Mmh. Worth a try.

[Rolling up her sleeve - her flesh is too-pale, with yellow and white undertones instead of the red of blood. The smell of rot is much stronger. It looks like the muscle just pulled apart at the elbow like wet paper.]

[That's sickening but he holds up the weird device and several rings of glowing green sigils appear around him as he concentrates, and then holds out his hand with a there.

A soothing healing wind will, possibly, knit her flesh back together. The magic is elemental, and shouldn't damage her worse at least.]

[Emilia sucks in a breath and peels her other glove off with her teeth when the flesh starts to knit. The fingertips must have been padded, because underneath her bare fingers each taper to a sharp point of bone. She uses them like tweezers to expertly guide things together as they start to repair.

It's pretty gross, but she's done this before, and before long it's starting to look better - the rot is clearing up, too.]

It's working.
