[ The beach fades away, leaving everyone back in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of the clearing and their-- beloved?-- train. There are some new stars in the sky, twinkling in ginger goldenrod, thyme apple, senna terracotta, jasmine blue, and clover pink.

The sound of a giggle fills the air and leaves behind bubbles-- touching one will give the uncontrollable urge to hug the nearest person. They will persist throughout the night. ]

... A little longer? If that's okay. Ginger's usually quiet anyway, but ... it's nice out here.

[ takes a deep breath of the sea air, sighing it out slowly ]

Unless you want to head back.

[...yeah, Ginger would be. Sob.]

Nah. You're right, it's nice out here. Lot cooler now at night.

Don't remind me of the heat, I'd almost managed to forget about it.

[He chuckles.] Sorry. At least it's nice enough now?

Honestly ... I’ve barely gotten anything done these past couple of days.

I've been mostly cleaning glitter. And memory catch up.

Ah! Have you remembered anything good?

[ She'd been about to say "interesting" ... ]

Made friends with Delta and helped York sleep. That was nice.

What're they like?

Very logical. Delta's an AI, so he's mostly about facts and figures and analyzing things. He's partnered with York, whose more of a laidback kind of guy, lot more emotional intelligence to help balance out.

Delta is also pretty good to make fun of York with, he seems to get how fun ribbing it and York gets banter pretty well.

Oooh, an AI! [ That's EXCITING. ]

They sound like a fun pair to hang around with.

Oh? I haven't told you about the AI stuff yet?

They really are. I like York, we make fun of each other a lot. [It's FUN.] And Delta helped ease my worry of handling an AI.

You've told me a bit, I think. I'd love to hear more.

Can you talk to them both one on one, then? Or d'you have to be talking to York already to talk to Delta?

That would be the whole helping York sleep thing.

Humans need sleep. AI's, not so much. York was having trouble sleeping because Delta would start doing things in his head and so he couldn't really manage real rest.

But if Delta is talking to me, then it's enough mental distance that York could sleep better.

[ ooohhhhh! ]

When you put it like that, having an AI sharing your head sounds like a lot of hard work ... Isn't there a way to take them out for a while? Or ... I guess that wouldn't be very nice for the AI, if it meant they'd be stuck somewhere by themselves.

It's a few different things. Delta said York could pull him if he desperately needed sleep, but the Director wanted Agent and AI to be together as much as possible. To help the adjustment and growing pains get worked through as quick as possible.

And there is that idea too. Storing an AI isn't hard, but it means they would just be that. Stored. Allowing an AI to function beyond that requires a lot of processing power which either means specialized equipment, which is expensive, or something big, which takes space which is at a premium in a ship.

A human brain provides a lot of easy processing power.
