The Nineteenth Trial

Who: Everyone
When: Day 43, evening
Where: The Mermaid's Beach

Come on, come on heroes...! Come hither!

[ There's a playful giggle and the sound of splashing as the Mermaid's beach appears in the clearing. ]

Let's play a game...!

Yeah.

[ There's a pause, and he's wondering whether he should go on or not - he does have more talking squares to get, after all ]

There was something odd about the memory, though. You know ... like a voice to the back of my head telling me it wasn't real no matter how real I wanted it to be. That's why I said I'm pretty sure I have a wife and a kid.

Kinda hard to describe it. I, huh, have been putting off taking my memories because of it. What if I find out it wasn't real? What if I find out something happened to them? I'm getting stupidly neurotic about it.

...

Well, I mean, there's certainly magic that can implant a false memory. On the other hand, if you're neurotic, it could also be a sign of a mental disorder. Like an imposter syndrome or something.

I....uh....might have an ability to help? I guess?

Oh - no, I'm not like, actually getting neurotic about it. It's just a figure of speech. I'm obsessing over it? It keeps me awake at night? But I'm totally fine mental health wise.

[ There's a pause at that ]

I promise.
daydreamshimmer: (Well you see....)

That's the opposite of convincing.

[Don't pry, don't pry, don't pry, don't pry is a mental chant right now, she needs to not have these talks WHILE CUDDLING, but at least focusing on NOT doing it keeps whatever her power is from going off. Maybe.]

But I mean, if it's a false memory, someone else looking at it might be able to tell? In theory?

[DON'T PRY.]

So you're saying you could see it and be able to tell if it's fake or not.

I don't know if I want to know. But not knowing isn't any better.
daydreamshimmer: (Eh heh)

Ppppprobably? I literally just discovered I could do this like an hour ago. But it's pretty potent telepathic ability. At the very least I'm familiar with illusions and the like, so I could look for things.

Better to not be surprised?

Okay, okay. Can you give me some time to think about it? Before involving anyone else maybe it's best if I do take my memories. But it's a nice offer and I appreciate it.
daydreamshimmer: (Well you see....)

[personal profile] daydreamshimmer 2019-10-14 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
That's fine. Probably best. I need to experiment because I'm not exactly sure what set it off the first time so we should change subjects before it....does.

That doesn't sound even a little bit reassuring. I hope you know that. And now I'm thinking about it even more.
daydreamshimmer: (Siiiigh)

Listen, this game has been a wild ride of self discovery for me.

[Looking at his card.] Sing something. That should take your mind off it.
