[SO TRAINGOERS. You may still be having water gun fights or you may have gotten bored of it, but if you're heading into the lounge to relax (or the kitchen to refill your water gun), you'll have to get past Lucky! He's taken over the table nearest the entrance to the car, dangling fairy lights from the ceiling and sprinkling silk rose petals on the table and the floor around it. There's a hand-scrawled posterboard hanging from the table's edge:

If you try to pass he'll call out, so good luck trying to escape. But hey, if you play along you'll get sparks...

[Holds up her fist a moment, as she's finishing a piece and then sitting back, dropping the chalk into her hand.]

Tea's already done?

[tea goes fast when you use the microwave to heat your water

shrugging off the chalk thingand quickly distracted anyhow]

It's done— Oh! Wow, that looks great! Is it a daffodil?

[At least she's good at not slobbering on the chalk. That'd be rude.]

Well, the first one. I guess I'm not half bad at drawing. And it's more of a daylily.

I don't really know my flowers that well. But it's super pretty!

Good for decoration and food.

But I can't really remember the best way to make a daisy souffle. But drawing seems to work.

Huh! I wonder if cooking is a kind of thing you need to actually remember the recipe for, or if you can get through it with a kitchen in front of you. I'm the only one on my team who isn't amnesiac, but none of us really cook.

Might depend if I could actually cook.

I can remember magic spells, but unicorn magic beyond levitation and special talent requires knowing the spell. The numbers, the emotions, how much power. Don't know it, can't do it. So I guess skill knowledge keeps. Which I'd guess is the same for drawing?

That would track... My abilities are hindered in a way where I remember everything I've learned and developed, but most spells have just been— disabled. I have to wait until I have enough sparks to reactivate the category they fall under.

[daydreamshimmer]

Yeah.

Of course, the knowledge doesn't do me much good without a conduit. If this body even has natural magic. Can't do much of anything if there's no spark to even start a spell.

[Picking up the chalk again.] It's actually pretty frustrating. I know plenty of shape change spells, but no horn and it might as well be useless jargon. [And chalk in mouth and gonna draw some more flowers.]

Oh, I can test for that. For if your body has its own magic, I mean.

[Drops the chalk and whips around.]

In theory. You're a different kind of human and a different kind of unicorn, but a modified beginner's ward should at least give me a reading if you have usable levels of magic. Hand me the chalk?

[Grabbing the chalk and bringing it over to her.]

One second, one second— oh, and leave the necklace off. I don't work with magical items, but let's avoid the risk of interference just in case.

[taking the chalk and stooping to draw a perfect circle around herself in one quick motion. Lori is suddenly there too, swooping in from some corner of the room to land on Eliza's shoulder.]

[daydreamshimmer]

Oh, right, yeah. [Taking it off and]

[Hesitating]

[Before setting is safely out of the way, if still in sight.]

What next?

[hums and adds a few more circles outside the first, the outermost drawn thick and bold with the long side of the chalk

turns around, facing away from sunset and fussing over the dragon]

Lori, be good, okay? No defense, alert only, okay, good girl?

Solar Flare, can you step into the circle? Lori might get scary, but she won't leave her perch on me.

[But magic.]

[BUT MAGIC.]

[She will step into the circle because she absolutely needs to know if she still has it.]

[bowtiedbones]

[lori's head WHIPS around, and she comes scrambling down Eliza's shoulder to cling to back of her shirt, wings spread and bobbing her head in a hissing display— before being whisked out-of-sight by Eliza turning around]

Okay! Okay, great, great out of the circle now, that's actually really itchy.

[scuffing her foot over all the chalk lines to break the rings]

[Stepping back out of the ward.]

Is that...a dramatic reaction? What does it mean?

[BTW, she was still magically connected to the geode. Wearing it is just convenience, it takes a lot more distance to break the connection, so if Eliza could tell, there's two sources of magic. Sunset's own that's more or less trapped in her body, and the Geode which is just being a powerful artifact.]

[she can't tell that much with a ward test, only that another magical entity breached the barrier. whether they're connected to an item, a familiar, or anything else doesn't affect results positive or negative.

It is and it's good news! Congratulations, you've got magic!

[And that]

[That is such a relief because she really did fear she just had none and that any hope she had of getting it back was beyond her reach. And that's hard when part of her Special Talent IS magic, even if she can't remember it. It's like her memories, and body, having it just be gone or wrong is a horrifying existential fear.]

I have magic.

I still have magic.

[Nope, those are the tears again and Eliza is now just getting a big hug.] I have magic!
