THE TWELFTH TRIAL

Who: Those who would love
Where: The Final Frontier
When: ?? (to be inserted into the timeline later)

Come hiiiiither, Heroes! Prove thy parenting skills!!

[ As usual there’s a tremor and then silence -- and then, as may be familiar to a few of you there appears a glittering void, points of light twinkling in the air. As you step into the space it expands, seeming to consume you, the Aurora, and all that exists in general. There’s a feeling of vertigo as this happens, frozen lights swirling all about you and once again it's all accompanied by obnoxious giggling.

When the darkness fades, you find yourself in an empty, featureless room with three doors, and on a pedestal in front of you: matching keys for each door. ]

[SNUFFLING AT HER, heightened senses are new and exciting]

Hi! We're all Everchangers now! Thyme and Jasmine, we're all wolves!

[sits back, wagging her tail]

We thought Lizzy was a werewolf, but turns out it's possibly-hereditary shape-changing induced by exercising magical ability. We can all turn into wolves! And I think we can go partway too maybe, like only ears? I haven't tested that yet.

...That explains why she could learn my blood magic.

[UM?]

It seems similar to when Nightkin reach puberty. You should be able to go partway, yes. It just requires more control.

I think we have control? We have more than our daughter did since she's new to it, so I'll have to try that next! I bet there's so many cute ways to put up hair around ears.

I could teach you a few, but how long do you suppose this will last?

[reflexively licks her own nose]

I'm not a 100% sure, but it feels like it could be long-term. It came with a scar.

Interesting...if it's permanent, I should probably teach you all how to best use these senses.

[Yawwwnnn.] Your sense of hearing won't be as sharp as mine, but there should be enough similarities otherwise.

[INCREASED TAIL WAGGING. bark!!]

Oh gosh, could you please? I want to make the most of this!

Well, I'll do my best.

[Climbing out of the basket!] It might be a bit tricky, since I'm not sure how much will come instinctively with the form.

[prances in place]

I don't know, but we all got walking and running down, so there's probably some instinct.
