The Fifth Trial

Who: ALL
When: Day 11, noon
Where: Outer Space

Come hither, Heroes. Prove thy worth.

[ That familiar silence befalls everything following the call, and just like before the third trial there’s a glittering void, points of light twinkling in the air. As you step into the space it expands, seeming to consume you, the Aurora, and all that exists in general. There’s a feeling of vertigo as this happens, frozen lights swirling all about you and once again it's all accompanied by obnoxious giggling.

This time, however, when the darkness fades, you're...

Back inside of the Aurora? No, this is actually an entirely different train. Outside the windows, you can only see wispy, dancing lights illuminating the surroundings, which you can't quite make out. The doors outside don't open. ]

[ his reaction is a bit slow. .. tilts head. trying to place who this even is.

ah, right. ]

I wasn't quite as involved. But my teammates were very keen on preventing anyone from sacrificing themselves in the last round of the last game. ... yours don't seem to have appreciated their efforts.

They're really prone to doing that! But why are they injured too. . .

Oh, that? There was an argument. That woman insisted on not staying on the train, so the perpetually-shirtless-redhead shot her. Repeatedly.

. . . But why did she want to get off in the first place!

[ hm... ] I think she said something about wanting to prove something.

To be honest I wasn't quite listening at that point. I was only hoping my own teammates wouldn't jump off after her.

Though if you're asking "why was jumping off of the train an option to begin with", it was a moral dilemma. We had to choose someone to sacrifice in order to save everyone who stayed on the train. The other members of my team all decided that they would rather none of us sacrifice ourselves, and that we would rather leave the so-called "citizens" to die instead.

I'm about as surprised as you might be by this.

. . . Well, no, it makes sense to me if it's for that reason, since she really seems like the self-sacrificing type, but. . .

[ hm. ]

Why not just let her go by herself?

... if she had gone, I'm sure that Jusis and Akira would have gone after her.

Two follower-types? Or two barely-restraining-themselves types?

Two unwilling-to-let-anyone-die-alone types. With a healthy side of doing-the-right-thing.

Akira lost his patience with the trial itself. Which I believe is why we ended up on the side of "none of us will be sacrificed".

Well, it's dumb, right? Sacrificing yourself for a bunch of game constructs?

It's dumb. [ agrees easily, though... ]

Evidently it was a test, to prove a point. Though whether she cared about that or not is beyond me. She's not my teammate.
