[She raises an eyebrow.]

[Then gestures at the simple necklace around her neck.]

[ At the gesture, his gaze locks onto the necklace and seems to freeze. Why does that seem so familiar? ]

....are you....okay?

[ Shakes his head, as if coming out of daze ]

Huh? Yeah. Fancy necklace. I'm guessing it has some kind of special power?

If it does, I don't know the way to activate it. Probably an incantation if it's more than a pretty gem.

Mine usually just takes concentration.

[ Demonstrates by fishing out the ruby globule underneath his shirt and closing his eyes before jerking it to the side and extending his arm outward, away from her. Instantly, an obsidian black blade with an ornate silver handle appears in his hand, the blade pulsing a dark blackish-purple. ]

Maybe you can try that.

[She crosses her arms and gives him the flattest look.]

I'm a unicorn. I know how magic works. I already tried everything that doesn't require remembering a precise activation.

Wait, wait, you're a what?

I'm a unicorn.

If you don't remember anything, how do you remember that?

Because general knowledge doesn't seem to be lost. Because if you've lost your memories, you're not gonna remember you're something else.

Because before I woke up yesterday, far as I know, I've never even seen a human.

I grew up with ponies. Any doubt on which I was is hard to argue when I seem to have retained a lot of magical knowledge. [Because years of specialized schooling is definitely a skill.]

But you're definitely not a pony right now... And I didn't think unicorns had magical knowledge so much as they just are magical.

All ponies are magical. Unicorns are just the ones who can actually manipulate their magic. Earth ponies and Pegasi magic relies on things reacting to their interactions with nature or it influences their physical bodies. Earth ponies get stronger easier, Pegasi can fly, etc.

But the unicorn horn allows for the ability to manipulate magic into spells. With study. Any unicorn can figure out levitation and whatever their special talent comes as second nature, but anything beyond that takes learning the numbers and emotions necessary to get it to do what you want.

I never realized there were so many kinds of ponies... Or that unicorns could read. Sounds like a lot of work either way. Sucks to lose all that here.

Of course unicorns can read! [Looks offended at that.] Reading and writing is necessary after a certain point in civilization. Certainly by the time you're building home with floors, you have to have numbers and numbers aren't far from written word at all.

I get that. It's just... where I come from, unicorns are kind of more like horses. But uh magical? They're also not real. So your world is a lot different. It's kind of a lot to take in, sorry.

Ponies. I'm a pony unicorn. Horses are from Saddle Arabia.

And in my world, humans don't exist. Plenty of other creatures, but no humans.
