[The sun has gone down when the heroes receive an unmarked message:

This Star has secrets you should know. If you want to find them, follow the light.

Should they look outside, they will in fact see a light -- a thin but bright pillar rising from the overgrown town out in the jungle.

It's still raining, still covered in frogs, but there's definitely something going on.

And in the direction of the beach, there's also a faint, bell-like ringing. But that's not what's calling you right now... is it?]

[Isildur's ghost, shaped by the water clinging to his invisible hide and a few bloody streaks, comes tearing out of the Community Center, scrambling around the group to set them like a barrier between the flooding building and his two passengers.

Eliza stumbles down from his back and slumps shivering to the ground]

[Isildur hisses nervously, pacing in a quick circle before laying down opposite Hazel to bracket Eliza with their bodies.]

[He shifts some, trying to get comfortable as he kneels, and keeps that hand there. He is tired, and hurts, but he is doing his absolute best to have some small amount of cheer in his voice.]

I understand. It is difficult to not count this as a failure, although you've done nothing wrong. Your quick thinking saved the both of us, in fact. There is still more to come.

It is alright. I have done less, and I am also at my limits. Be proud that you have done your best in extraordinary circumstances.

[buries her face in Naeva's shoulder, clinging back tightly. she's bloody and crying and she's absolutely not letting go.]

Crow's— he's... There was a-?

[she has to say what happened, it feels important to tell someone at least, but she has to stop. get her breath. it feels like her throat is full of glass.]

[It was a not insignificant amount of blood. It was a not insignificant amount of noise. She strokes the top of Eliza's head, slowly, shakily, as gently as she can...Naeva's not practiced at this, but she's been through all this before, so she has to help Eliza through it now.]

It's okay. It's not your fault. [A pause.] Hazel said...they'll be revived.

[it's not the first time to feel like she almost died. it's not the first time they've left someone behind escaping, not even the second time now. but it is the first time she's seen someone die like that.]

[She sighs, gently, and continues applying pets.] We are made to act as soldiers, and healers, and well-adjusted civilians, all at once. It is unfair of them, to ask us to bear so much. People like Lucien and I, we were...bred to this.

You should never have had to bear this burden. You don't have to put on a brave face.
