Event: Mirror Image

Who: everyone!
When: Day 19 evening and on
Where: outside

[As darkness falls in the jungle, an unusually chill breeze rustles through the trees. In its wake is silence, the purified fauna going quiet as if in dread.

Is it just you, or is the night darker tonight?

You may find the cause if you leave the train. Those who are caught alone outside will see the shadows grow suddenly long. The darkness coalesces into a vaguely human form, vague and faceless but radiating cold.

Before you can react the shadows surround you. Deep within, your most bitter, unpleasant feelings rise up in your chest. It's overwhelming, threatening to consume you, but just before it can it suddenly stops. The shadows recoil, dissipating into the jungle.

You're safe, but those negative feelings might be closer to the surface than usual.

Good luck, especially if you're one of the newbies just waking up.]

[NOTES: This event will OOCly end on Wednesday, but feel free to ICly push time forward as much as you like. There will be a followup post at that time, and you can schedule player-run trials any time after.

The emotional effect of this event can be as severe as you want. Your character could just be a bit grumpy, or they could find their emotions totally out of control. The effect lasts a couple of hours or until the character counters it with happier feelings.]

Being an asshole isn't a replacement for having an actual personality.

[She inhales, holds it, exhales. Do not bite this idiot.]

Does no one on this train have the emotional competence the gods gifted a squirrel?

Is that the best insult you can manage?

[Just reaching over.

And flicking his forehead.]

I'm not using my best on a teenager looking for a fight.

[Leaning... Back.]

I'm fully an adult, but your condescending view on competence versus age is noted.
desirestruth: (Let's go home)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-04-19 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, because stopping someone in their tracks to berate them is an adult thing to be doing?

[SHRUG.]

Do you truly have no better way to spend your time then accosting strangers and starting fights?

...Well you're correct about that much.

[He's going to turn and try to walk out of the conversation that... He started...]

And a coward, too, that's charming.

[But she won't stop him! Just, you know. call him chicken.]

You clearly don't want my company. Is attempting to remove myself from your thoroughly riveting presence also too "childish" for you? I didn't realize you were having so much fun in this absolutely delightful conversation. No wonder you didn't try to remove yourself from it on your own. After all, if you really hated it, wouldn't walking away be the "adult" thing? On the other hand, since you're so wise and aged, I must assume that your protests mean you like my company and this conversation is not at all tiresome. What a relief.
desirestruth: (Have you forgiven me?)

[personal profile] desirestruth 2019-04-19 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
...The adult thing would have been not to have started the conversation, and to have apologized for it. But I see you failed at even basic etiquette or to have the grace to recognize you are at fault, so no, I don't think I'll be spending any more time in the presence of a blistering idiot.

[She doesn't want to deal with this so much she just literally turned into a jackal so she can leave faster. NAEVA OUTTIE.]

....

[Did she really just stop him from leaving so she could leave first? Dog thing aside, that's it's own kind of impressive spite.]
