[As the sun sets, the Ninth Trial ends. The Hermit and his tent disappear in a shower of square-shaped sparkles, and up above there are new stars in apple, terracotta, cobalt, & violet. Congratulations, guys!

As a parting gift, the Hermit's voice can be heard once more.

Nice job, everyone. Hopefully that was refreshing -- but if you need more apology, you should head to the beach.

Those who follow his suggestion will find a hearty bonfire set up, with food for roasting and beach blankets and cushions scattered around. The nearby water is safe and calm, so enjoy the warm, gentle evening!]

[That sounds extremely like 'turn into a jackal and nap' to naeva, so that's what she's gonna do.

Just look at her there. Dozing. Innocent. Unsuspecting.

Having stolen every pillow she could find to make her nest.]

[It has been quite a day today. A long day. A somewhat emotionally draining day! So Hlasoh can be found lying on her back on a blanket for now staring up at the stars. She's not asleep or anything, so come bother her, if you want.]

[HECK yes]

Okay, super important, does anybody here not know how to make s'mores?

What is a "s'more"?

[she can make like a gourmet dessert but wtf is this (magical) thing?]

It’s a campfire treat. Like a marshmallow, chocolate, and graham cracker sandwich.

[this sounds rustically delightful]

I have never had one. How are they made?
bowtiedbones: (27)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-06 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
They're super easy! The first and main step is just roasting a marshmallow.

I see. Simple enough. What follows, Miss Eliza?

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-07 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Then you take two halves of a graham cracker and a piece of chocolate, and smush the marshmallow between them! A good trick too is letting the cracker and chocolate sit near the fire while you roast, so the chocolate is already a little melted before the marshmallow goes on. I've also seen cereal sprinkled on it for extra crunch!

[80H is listening with rapt attention.]

Cereal? I see. Do you have a preference for which kind?
bowtiedbones: (27)

Frosted Flakes! Lucky Charms or Fruit Loops look cute, but Frosted Flakes is the best option by a mile.

I have never had any of these...will a smore truly be inferior without them?

[she wants to make the best possible ones!!]
bowtiedbones: (32)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-07 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Frosted Flakes are sugar-glazed corn flakes. S’mores are still pretty good without them! Like you can also do s’mores with peanut butter and chocolate, or cookies instead of the crackers, but the classic is still great as is.

What an interesting number of variations. I should like to try [all] some of them.

I would like to make a few.

Put a marshamallow on a stick and have at it! Just remember not to shake it if it catches on fire.

Well then, time to learn!

Sure, you'll be learning something.

Good. And if it comes up again, I can teach it to others.

So what is a s'more?
bowtiedbones: (27)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-16 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
A s'smore is a sandwich of graham crackers, chocolate, and roasty toasty marshmallow.
bowtiedbones: (64)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-16 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
It is! Marshmallows are nothing but sugar.

So, you just put them together?
bowtiedbones: (63)

Yep, that’s all there is to it.

Huh. No tricks to making them, then?
bowtiedbones: (68)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-21 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
No, but if you want a perfect s'more, then yes.

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-21 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
That is so true. Okay! The key to a s'more is always going to be in your marshmallow roasting. You want to get the inside as melty as you can, but you still want some soft crisp on the outside.

[personal profile] wontforbidtherain 2019-04-21 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
All right. So, it would have to be the correct distance from the fire.
bowtiedbones: (22)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-22 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Right, too far away and it takes too long, too close and it burns. Getting it right above the coals but not in any actual flame works great.

[is starting to experiment with her marshmallow on-a-stick]

Interesting.
bowtiedbones: (27)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-26 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Burning is okay for snacking, but not so great for s'mores since the inside isn't as soft. Just be careful not to shake it if it catches fire, you only want to blow out marshmallows.

[personal profile] wontforbidtherain 2019-04-28 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Shaking would spread the fire.

{a check for understanding]
bowtiedbones: (20)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-28 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Right, and you especially don't want the marshmallow to fly off an hit someone. It's sticky, so that burn isn't going to come off easily!

[that gets a wince]

I'll keep it firmly on the stick.
bowtiedbones: (27)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-04-28 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Until it goes onto the s'more anyways.

[personal profile] wontforbidtherain 2019-05-10 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly so.

[the marshmallow is looking pretty toasty now, so Aphra removes it from the heat and attempts to get it to stick to the graham cracker without getting goo everywhere.]
bowtiedbones: (32)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-05-11 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Try using both crackers at once to pull it off. Like tongs.
