(no subject)

Who: Heroes, possibly suffering
When: Day 16, Late Morning through Afternoon
Where: Aurora

[Well, that just happened! Many people on the train are now doubtlessly the worse for wear, physically and psychologically. How are you sorting all of that out?

Alternately, maybe you have enough Sparks for a memory and you're playing it on the big screen? Or you're testing out a new power?

Or maybe you have something else in mind? Mingle away!]

We don't always end up the one hurt, but trials are almost every other day. You should buy a healing— it's only 500 points, we can earn than back.

I will. Soon.

The skeletons are new. How do they work?

[sits down next to her, starting on a series of stretches]

The full How They Work is a bigger answer than either of us has time for. These are two of my familiars: I summoned pieces of old souls, patched them together into new ones, connected them to my soul, and together we have spells running so they can move around.

Their names are Isildur and Isolde.

What turns souls into pieces?

[one of the skeletons wanders up to nose over Eliza’s shoulder, snuffling at her hair. what’re you doing, are you talking about me, mom pay attention to me mom]

It’s just natural decay. Dead souls disintegrate over time.

So using them for this isn't harming the souls.

If it hurt them, I wouldn't be doing it.

I'm very careful with my magic, and my summonings are all invitational. I don't force anything to answer me.

What sort of magic do you know?

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-03-19 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
I know a lot! But my specialty is necromancy with some beastmastery.

[glances at the skeleton-puppies]

That does make sense.

[the skeletons are now wrestling over who gets to sit in the sand hole]

Not much of a surprise, huh? I work with a lot of extinct stuff.

So paleontology or archeology?
bowtiedbones: (20)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-03-20 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it obvious it's paleontology?

It was my first choice. But an archeologist might be interested in domesticated animals of old societies.

Maybe, it's true they like to look at stuff like that. But honestly, summoning an ancient goat or dog is way below my paygrade.

If the souls are fragmentary, what can you learn from summoning them?
bowtiedbones: (22)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-03-22 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
The souls are fragmented, but they make the shape of a whole one when you combine them.

[personal profile] wontforbidtherain 2019-03-22 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
You'd have to make sure you got all the same species of soul, correct?
bowtiedbones: (52)

[personal profile] bowtiedbones 2019-03-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. That's not a huge issue though, like I'm sure some subspecies or hybrids fing their way in, and a lot of the time I will draw from a broad area geographically or chronographically, but unrelated souls aren't going to want to form up with unrelated souls or an unfamiliar host skeleton.

Interesting. I don't think I know most of this, or I'd do more than ask questions.

I don't mind answering questions! My area of expertise is very specialized.
