What usually calms them?

Redirection, distractions, being convinced that I'm calm. They won't really be satisfied until the threat is gone.

And what usually helps you regain calm?

Work.

It's not good to work on my own research when I'm mad, but I'll do other projects. Beastmastery is a good filler.

I don't need to work with what's just here. I've summoned salamandars and a hellhound without trouble.

I let her go, so it'll be a while until I can summon one of those again... I can do it without a bonfire, but that's the safest method.

If a beastmaster tried to make a familiar out of everything they summoned, they would end up tearing themselves to pieces within a year. Enya was here on contract. Isildur, Isolde, and Lori are bound by and to my soul.

Of course there's restrictions, I can't just pull a monster out of thin air and tell it to listen to me for no reason.

What happens if they do not listen?

If a summons doesn't want to listen, it's not going to answer the summons in the first place.

...and it's not a talent, these are professional skills that I've spent twenty years of practice and study developing.

I apologize, I assumed there must be some natural aptitude involves as well. They would of course have to be properly nurtured.

The only part of my world's magic that's innate is how much excess a person can hold or regenerate, but you can still be an accomplished magician even if your levels are nothing. Everything comes down to how much you can learn.

Does the excess give you an advantage over others?

It means I can cast my own spells. I have more room to work independently.
