BOND-Y BEACH

Who: Eliza, Fang and interested parties
When: Day 21, morning
Where: The beach

[Remember on Day 12 when we got back actually-pretty beaches and actually-safe shallows? WELL. Today there's a mass message from one of your resident cute Thymes on ChainChat!]

Eliza: hi hi hi!
Eliza: Do you know how to swim? 🏊🌊
Eliza: Do you want to learn how?? Knowing how to swim is great for fun and saftey 🐠
Eliza: Meet us on the beach for lessons today 🏖️

[If you decide to follow up on that and head in that direction, or are just out on the beach for other reasons, you'll find Eliza (in a cute two-piece) and Fang (in boring black board shorts, but check those hella scars) hanging out along the shoreline, a bottle or two of sunscreen and Thyme-colored towels at their feet! If you pass close enough you may be greeted by a friendly wave or a business-like nod.]

Did you want to participate in our swimming lessons?

Oh, that would be useful. Easier to get away from crocodiles that way, right?

Oh gosh no. There's no swimming away from a crocodile that's decided it wants you.

I know. They kill quite a lot of people every year, where I'm from, so it was some grim humor. Hippopotami, too.

Do you live near the Nile?

[personal profile] nihilmancy 2019-05-08 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't heard of the Nile. Most of Ta-Nisuty is along the Darhush and Hapi rivers, with several tributaries and streams and canals.

[But it is fantasy egypt, yeah]

Oh. It's a big river in my world. Hippos and crocodiles have ranges past the Nile, but that's where they're most known from.

[Wading into the water. She has to admit, it feels nice.]

The rivers are the biggest modes of transport, so the authorities need to cull them sometimes.

Mm.

Anyways, I'll do a lap of the crawl, so you can see what it looks like for a refresher. It's also called freestyle.

[personal profile] nihilmancy 2019-05-09 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Alright, thank you. [She's to take her glasses off before she swims, but she has them on for now in case there's anything her instructor is going to show her!]

[just doing a quick lap of freestyle, swimming out a short ways and then back to her. standing up again.]

Oof, that makes my head so much heavier when it's wet. Have you seen that stroke before?

[personal profile] nihilmancy 2019-05-11 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
Um, y-your hair is nice, though.

[Clearly paying attention to the important part.]

Mm, yes, I think I can see the motion.

I look like a soggy lion, but thank you.

Do you want to try it right off, or learn the stages? Kids start with learning how to flutterkick first.

[personal profile] nihilmancy 2019-05-12 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[She laughs lightly at the image.]

It may be easiest to learn the steps.

[curls her hands like paws RAWR, then holds her hands out for hlasoh to take]

Okay, then we'll start with kicking. Hold onto me so you don't need to worry about paddling, you just need to focus on keeping your legs up. Point your toes and don't lock your knees.

[How the fuck are you so loveable]

2/2

[personal profile] nihilmancy 2019-05-13 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Nodding and taking her hands, rather mortified by this sort of childish position

but refusing would feel even more awkward.]

O-Okay.

[She complies, moving fairly fluidly through the movement.]

[walking backwards so she gets some feel for the aquadynamics, totally unembarrassed]

Great, just like that! You want to be level, but if you kick with too much splashing you're just wasting power.

[Continues practicing the kicks, focusing on getting the rhythm down- and not on the awkward situation of being held like this.]

Like this?
