[So after all the earlier excitement.... dramatic organ music starts to play through the cars. There's no obvious source. It's just... There? All around you for a while, before fading.

Of course before the music fades there's more things going on. A mist seeps up from the earth outside the train and within the train simply seems to form like it's produced by invisible fog machines. As the mist grows into a thick fog, you can hear eerie noises. Distant wolf howls, the screech of a fox that sounds like human screaming, owls hooting hauntingly, the leathery flap of bat wings, and other, less identifiable noises of the night, strange and otherworldly.

If you go out in it, breathe it in, the mist will chill you. Make you desire... Touch.

The need to hold another person is an almost growing compulsion, but it can be fought.

However things that are harder to avoid are the flowers, night blooming wisteria in white and purple seems to have grown from nowhere in the train cars, hanging down to brush the heads of passengers with sweet scented blossoms, and the floors of the train and ground around it have become endless beds of gently glowing moonflowers.

The only places the fog and flowers don't reach are team cabins.

Effects:

Mist:

Cold that cannot be dispelled without touch, a desire to touch others.

Wisteria:

Purple blossoms cause an empathetic bond with the next person you touch.

White blossoms cause arousal and a mild to powerful aphrodisiac effect.

Moonflowers:

Share memories or thoughts with the next person you touch.

By morning the mist and flowers will vanish.]

Well gosh, can't be blamed for that. It's really atmospheric, isn't it?

[just casually reaching out to scratch naeva's shoulders, not thinking about it. she's been sitting in this fog for 40-something minutes, she's gotta. gotta pet.]

[She makes kind of a low whine, but her tail thumps on the ground a little. She'll be mortified and scandalized later, but for now, uh. Please. Please pet jackal. Oh fuck yes pet jackal.]

Atmospheric's a nicer word for it then I ever heard.

I think it's nice, so I'm going to call it something nice.

[She ends up just sort of flopping over so she is in optimal position for more pets.

She is way softer than any wild jackal would be, also. She's so fucking soft, holy shit.]

That makes sense. Most people just have bad taste, so they don't like this.

That's their loss and more quiet for us. They would spook the owls off.

[she doesn't know how soft jackals are supposed to be, but she can appreciate:]

Mmm? I don't think I'm any softer than normal..

[What she is is probably going to doze off under the pets.]

It's cold. Should it be this cold?

Maybe, maybe not... I know California coastal weather sort of, but I haven't lived on an island before.

All of my memories have been inside. And no names larger than a town, so I can't tell you where they were.

I have another one to watch, if I don't mind showing it in public.

I haven't decided yet. Some happened in private, but I don't think they betrayed any confidences.

Mmm that is a thing, isn't it? We don't really have permission to share things that might be sensitive about people back home. We can't ask.

Exactly. I don't know how Mister Day would feel about me disclosing that we study magic together. Even though it does not appear to be a problem here.

I think some people here would be more surprised by an absence of magic. Myself included if I hadn't met people without any before here.
