[80H is in the common area, making food. She's taken off her bandages, and her elbows look entirely fine, like they weren't shot at. The knees might be okay to assume the same of, but they are, naturally, hidden. She hasn't been out much since the trial, or even before it, honestly, but she's been doubling down on her isolated tendencies. She had to talk to one of their newbies but, after that, it was back to being a hermit.

So it is, perhaps, odd to see her out and about making food, and, what's more, it does not seem to be all for her.]

Last night things were hectic enough. But I'm still confused and if we're to do things as a team I need to know the actual team.

[he leans back, closing his eyes.]

...She's stubborn. Real stubborn. And saying she doesn't care about her own well-being is... I'm pretty sure she's actively against being okay.

So she's got some self-flagellation issues.

Yeah. An' she won't be talked out of it, even to keep other people safe. There was a trial where no one was willing to leave her behind to die, so her staying would have gotten literally everyone in the group killed. And I had to force her to go.

[ You know he was holding food but. He's letting it go and keeping his hands off of, like, anything ]

Tell me about the trial.

It was shitty. The idea was we were running a train in an apocalypse, and every stop we had to choose whether to save the people at the stop and risk being overrun, or to stay on schedule. At the end the runner made it clear that the win condition was that someone had to hold off the monsters and die.

I was up for it. So was she. But when people started threatening to stay too in order to keep me from doing it... I folded, but I knew she wouldn't. Still tried, though. They tried talking to her, I tried talking to her, but eventually I had to subdue her and physically drag her with us.

... Sorry, subdue is too gentle a word for what I did. I shot out her joints so she couldn't run away.

[ Wow. That sounds like a highly emotional time and he honestly doesn't know what he would have done if he'd found himself in the situation. The trial itself doesn't seem like a jolly fun time either. ]

I think you did the only thing you could have done.

Sparks aren't so difficult to obtain that this would have been worth it.

They're really, really not.

[he sounds existentially tired just talking about it.]

She was pissed, of course. Broke her own Chain so I couldn't send her sparks to pay for healing. So... I dunno what she's up to now.

Cooking, apparently.

But that explains a few things. She did seem to imply this team is made up of losers, more or less.

But I think she's making an effort now.

[laughs soft and a little bitter]

I'm not too proud to accept that effort.

For what it's worth, right now I think I would have left - her, and everyone who wanted to stay behind.

So like I said. You did the only thing you could have done to save everyone.

Can't say I wouldn't have done the same at some points in my life.

[but he shrugs, visibly trying to lighten up]

[gets his ruffles in and lets him pull away easily.]

I'm not. I'm treating you like someone who's being nicer to me than I expected.

I don't have a reason to not be nice to you. You've been a lot of help so far.

I'm glad to hear it. I guess I just- expected you to take the whole "I shot our teammate" thing harder?

Our teammate was being kind of a dick in that situation, so really, that helps with that perception.

I don't think you're out to shoot the rest of the team, or me specifically, for no reason. And it genuinely sounds like what you did saved her along with everybody else.

... Yeah. I guess I just... Worry.

Did the others take it badly?

Well. She did, obviously. Aria saw the whole thing and was pretty spooked, though I think he probably would have been with any of the possible outcomes. Coral and I haven't really talked about it, and I think that other teammate of ours was trying not to react when I told him. So... hard to say.

[ Oh. So in the end that was why he didn't want to explain too much at first ]

I wasn't there, so I can't really judge how bad it went or was for them. But you still acted in everyone's best interest.

So don't beat yourself up over it too much.
