[ Checking in on him. Something major happened and she-- well, she gets that it was pretty bad from the sound of it. Also... he doesn't seem to be all that lively at the moment.

Moving beside him, she automatically begins to pull some spices and other ingredients down. ]

Can I help you?

[He had glanced her way when she entered the room, but about all the acknowledgement he does at first. At least until she gets closer and talking.]

....if you want. Do you remember how to cook? [He's not quite cold in his tone, but there is certainly a lack of much emotion in it.] Or...the whole weirdly know how to do something even though you don't remember learning? Knowledge skills are weird like that.

I think so. At least, I already have ideas and recipes in mind. I don't know anything about myself yet, but... I'd still like to help out and contribute to our team. All of you are so very kind and warm... I'm so grateful for that. So I want to do everything I can to help.

[ She glances back over to him. ]

If you need to rest, or just relax for a little bit... I can handle dinner tonight. You shouldn't feel like you need to push yourself.

You know you're familiar with how to work in the kitchen. You can actually learn a fair bit about yourself, judging from what things you know, what your gut reactions are. It's not quite memories, but it can help you have a sense of who you are at your core.

[He glances at her and there's a little huffing noise. He's still pretty zero on the emotions, but it might be a touch warmer.]

I don't do well with stillness. [And the bags that's been under his eyes would attest to that.] It's easier for me to process if I'm doing things. Always kind of been that way since I was a kid and it helped me a lot as a soldier.

But I don't mind doing things with other people.

I hadn't thought about that... our bodies might remember even if our mind doesn't.

[It's a good thing to keep in mind!]

I understand how you feel though. I don't think I like to, um.... [She...freezes abruptly... ] hold still either.

[ It... it's a pun! Right? That works... and maybe will help him to smile a bit? ]

Basically. That trick helped me win my first trial here. We had to share 'secrets' about ourselves, and one pointers were basically facts about yourself.

[Its a terrible joke, but it reminds him a bit of Caboose and he makes an amused huff.] It is pretty tiring.

Don't forget to make 'you' time though, either. Or rather... I hope you don't wear yourself down thinking that you have to shoulder everything yourself. I know I'm new, but... um... if we're a team, it's like a family, right? So if you ever need anything... or want help, um... then please count on me!

Though I feel presumptuous saying that...

[ Asserting that they are supposed to be a family. Everyone has connections already, so... m-maybe she's being too bold. ]

[He actually looks up and there's surprise on his face so congrats on GETTING AN EMOTION.]

[He stares at her for a few moments.]

[It's a strange kind of sound. Not the kind of laugh that would benefit the more cheerful, friendly persona he had given her when they first met. This one is a lot more tired. Kind of worn out. But it's also relieved.]

There are some people who would see you are presumptuous. It's happened on Clover for a bit. Might freak out Five a bit, so ease into that kind of talk if you can.

[He's not smiling, but there is at least less tension in his shoulders.]

I was adopted. One of my few childhood memories. Then I was in the military. A special ops unit and then a....honestly, I couldn't even tell you what the Reds and Blues were? They certainly weren't trained special ops, but I don't think they were regular military either.

I love those people. Just as much as I loved my mother, at least in the one memory I have of her. My adopted family, my teammates, my friends. I would do anything to protect them. And I trusted them to have my back.

Clover is my team. And that means as long as my trust isn't betrayed, then Clover has my loyalty. That makes Clover important.

Family feelings take time, but considering my track record, that's probably just a matter of time for me.

So no, at least for me, it doesn't sound so presumptuous.

I know people need to accept help sometimes. And sometimes I guess I do too much, but that's more a quirk of personality than lack of trust.

[ The military... that certainly would be a rough start to life. But the people he worked with...even though he lost his family, he found a new family that he could love and protect just as much. Somehow, that warms her heart immensely. ]

You have a big heart, Dusk-san. Somehow, that really warms my own. I'd really love to hear about your family from home, one of these times if you'd be willing to share with me. They must be incredibly lucky people.

[He's not sure he believes it. He loves people fiercely, but he can also be coldhearted on a massive scale. It's a bit of a complicated balancing game in his head.]

Oh, they are lucky. Both bad and good. And absolutely insane. [Because he can also always talk shit about his family even if he loves them to bits.] At least the ones in the military, I think my adopted family was a little more sane.

But Freelancers and Reds and Blues? Completely crazy. I really don't know how some of our plans work.

What kinds of plans?

Mostly military skirmishes or trying to not die in a canyon.

Or trying to get a guy out of a wall.

Do you have any special requests for breakfast tomorrow? I was thinking I'd like to make a special breakfast for everyone.

[ Pauses mid-lick to look at her, her tongue blepped out. ]

[ That's totally a breakfast food, right? Right. ]

Oh! Salmon would be delicious! I'm sure we can get the ingredients. Maybe some rice, miso, and salmon, then. With a couple of vegetable sides.

[ her tail twitches, swishes, and gives a bit of a wag. ]

And fruit? Apples are good. Bell peppers.

[ actual meals are definitely not her forte. ]

I wasn't sure what kinds of things a mighty dragon might like to eat. It's good to know for the future. Fruit is definitely doable!
